What are GM crops?

Genetically modified crops are those types of crops whose DNA has been altered via genetic engineering. 

The aim of this genetic engineering is to introduce certain desirable traits that do not naturally occur in plants. Some of these traits include increased resistance to certain pests, diseases, environmental conditions, reduction of spoilage etc.
