What are the branches of horticulture & their meaning?

Based on the type of crops produced and how the plants are used, the horticulture industry can be divided into three major areas. They are floriculture, olericulture, pomology and post-harvest technology.

    • Floriculture is a branch of horticulture, which deals with the scientific study of flowering and ornamental crops
    • Olericulture deals with the scientific study of vegetable crops
    • Pomology deals with the scientific study of fruit crops
    • Post-harvest technology deals with the principles and practices of handling, packaging and processing of harvested crops to increase their storage life and availability.
