The state with the highest number of tigers is Madhya Pradesh at about 526 as per the latest counting. It is also the state with the highest number of tiger reserves.
Other states with significant populations are Uttarakhand at 442, Karnataka at 524, Tamil Nadu at 229, Maharashtra at 190, Assam at 167, Kerala at 136 and Uttar Pradesh at 117.
