The Sepoy Mutiny was started by Indian troops serving the British East India Company in Meerut.
The first spark of the Mutiny is thought to have been set off by Mangal Pandey who was in the East India Company Army stationed in Barrackpore. Although he was arrested, tried and executed, his contemporaries in Meerut took inspiration from his actions and began the rebellion.
