National youth day or Yuva Diwas celebrates the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 12th.
Swami Vivekananda was one of the greatest social reformers, writers,and philosophers from India.
The Indian Government has decided to celebrate the 12th of January as National Youth Day since 1984.Teachings and practices of Swami Vivekananda had a tremendous influence on the youth of India.
He promoted the Vedanta philosophy and Yoga in the Western World.
Ramakrishna Mission,established in 1897 by Vivekananda, carried out Educational and Philanthropic works.
The headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math,was established in 1899.
The UN decided to celebrate 12th August as International Youth Day in 1999.
