Why is Chilika Lake removed from Ramsar?

Chilika Lake has not been removed from the Ramsar Convention but rather from the Montreux Records.

The Montreux Record is a register of wetland sites on the List of Ramsar wetlands of international importance where changes in ecological character have occurred or are in the process as a result of human activities or natural events.

Chilika Lake was removed from the Montreux Records following extensive rehabilitation in 2002. Earlier it was facing environmental concerns due to excessive sedimentation.
