The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar also known as IIT Ropar is one of the 8 new IITs that have been established by MHRD. This institute of higher education in Engineering and Technology offers top-quality technical education in various disciplines of Engineering that facilitate the spreading of knowledge matched with the latest developments in the industry. This helps in producing top class engineers and scientists. The institute also helps in facilitating international knowledge attainment and an environment conducive to research and development.


IIT Ropar Rankings:


IIT Ropar is ranked 9 in National Institutional Ranking Framework published by Ministry of Human Resource Development in April 2017.


IIT Ropar Campus:


IIT Ropar started functioning from its temporary campus at IIT Delhi in 2008. IIT Delhi is the mentor institute of IIT Ropar. At present, it functions from the “Polytechnic college for women” which is a government college in Ropar. In future, the campus of IIT Ropar will relocate as the Government of Punjab has offered a land of 500 acres on the banks of River Sutlej.


IIT Ropar Tech Fest:


IIT Ropar not only creates a healthy and active environment for teaching but is also keen in facilitating and supporting research in diverse disciplines. The motive is to build awareness among the students about the newest developments in different disciplines of study and also to enable them to pursue their individual research interests. A central research facility is also being established. There are various societies run by the student body at IIT Ropar to promote extracurricular and co-curricular activities.


These clubs ensure participation from the students in different institute level activities & competitions and prepare them for inter-college competitions. The Fine Arts Club, Music Society, Dance Club, LitSoc- The Literary Society, The Chess Club, The Athletics Club, The Creative Writing Club, Science and Technology Club, etc. are managed by the respective student representatives and a secretary.


‘’Zeitgeist’’ is the annual cultural fest of IIT Ropar that is known for its vibrant celebrations.


IIT Ropar Placements:


IIT Ropar saw a successful placement season with almost all eligible students getting placed. An average package of nearly 12 LPA was offered with an increment of 10 percent in comparison to the last season.


Some of the major recruiters were Amazon, Google, Microsoft, PayPal, Arista Networks, Texas Instruments, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Coal India Limited, Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Steelwedge, Axtria and Click Labs. IIT Ropar also saw a robust line-up of first-time recruiters like Saavn, Yodlee, TinyOwl, Grofers, Practo, CouponDunia, Steelwedge, Axtria, Click Labs, RockON, BRDS, Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Indus Valley Partners, Coal India Limited, and SyberPlace. A total of 37 companies came for the placements in 2017.
