Are You Ready to Draw a Real Face?

The beauty of any portrait depends upon the similitude of the mental image and the real image of the artist. The more the image is similar to the visual perception of the artist, the more accurate and captivating it will be. Artists present their ideas, feelings, and emotions through the pictorial representations that they put forward to the public. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and the true beauty of art is decided by the person who observes it with a complete mind.

Art is the liberty of an artist, and there are a number of ways in which a human face can be depicted. If kids are interested in learning to draw images of human faces, the following simple steps will be of great use to them.

Step 1: Start drawing the image of a human face by drawing a large circle. In the middle of the paper, draw a small horizontal line below the circle to form the chin part of the face.

Step 2: Draw the jawline by sketching two small slanted lines connecting the horizontal line drawn below the circle, and complete the face by connecting the slanted line to the top part of the circle.

Step 3: Draw a vertical line down the centre of the face. Make sure that the face is divided into two symmetrically.

Step 4: Draw guidelines on the face. Sketch an image almost similar to a ruler on the right side of the face. Start with the middle line mark and divide the line into eight equal spaces by marking A, B, C, middle line, D, E, and F, respectively.

Step 5: Draw trace lines through the face from the points marked as A, C, middle line, E, and F.

Step 6: On the face, mark four equally divided points on the middle line to draw the eyes.

Step 7: Draw the eyes accurately fitting inside the divided marks on the face and start drawing the nose.

Step 8: Draw two vertical lines from the inner corners of each eye; this guideline decides the width of the nose.

Step 9: Draw a perfect nose fitting inside these guidelines and extend the nose’s bridge past the eyelids.

Step 10: Sketch the eyebrows over the eyes and below the line drawn from point C.

Step 11: Draw a vertical line down the centre of each eye. These lines will help to mark the lips’ outer boundary. Draw the lips fitting inside the rectangular figure formed by the two vertical lines from the middle of the eyes and lines from E and F.

Step 12: Draw the ears. The middle line and the line from point E mark the general boundaries for each ear.

Step 13: Decide how large the forehead has to be and draw the upper hairline somewhere between points A and B.

Step 14: Finish drawing the image of the face by filling it with the most accurate colours.
