“Do you know where the points (2, 0), (–3, 0), (4, 0) and (n, 0), for any real number n, lie in the Cartesian plane? Yes, they all lie on the x-axis. But do you know why?” Learn in detail about the Equations of Lines Parallel to the x-axis and y-axis in section 4.5 of Chapter 4 of the NCERT Solutions. To assess students’ knowledge once the concepts have been explained, there are some exercises given.
In Exercise 4.4, there are 2 questions. Detailed and step-wise solutions for all the questions have been provided by our subject experts in the NCERT Solutions for Class 9 Maths Chapter 4 – Linear Equations in Two Variables Exercise 4.4 so that the concept is easily comprehensible by students.
Following the syllabus and guidelines, these NCERT Solutions for Class 9 Maths have been created to help students prepare for the exams. They can gain practice solving these questions, and thus be confident while writing the exams.

NCERT Solutions for Class 9 Maths Chapter 4 – Linear Equations in Two Variables Exercise 4.4
1. Give the geometric representations of y = 3 as an equation
(i) in one variable
(ii) in two variables
Solution:
- In one variable, y = 3
(ii) In two variables, 0x+y = 3
When x = 0, y = 3
When x = 1, y = 3
2. Give the geometric representations of 2x+9 = 0 as an equation
(i) in one variable
(ii) in two variables
Solution:
(i) In one variable,
2x+9 = 0
2x = -9
x = -9/2
x = -4.5
(ii) In two variables,
2x+9 = 0
2x+0y+9 = 0
When y = 0, x = -4.5
When y = 1, x = -4.5
Exercise 4.4 of the NCERT Solutions contains 2 questions, each with 1 main question and 2 sub-sections under it. In these questions, students might be asked to give the geometric representation of given equations in one variable and two variables.
