A chromosome is considered a laggard if it does not overlap with any of the correctly segregating chromosomes across the long axis of the spindle.
Laggard chromosomes in meiosis are caused by the abnormal dicentric chromosome, which has two centromeres. A dicentric chromosome is generated when two centromere-containing chromosomal segments merge, causing the loss of acentric fragments and the formation of dicentric fragments.
