Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Graduate Level Examination for filling up of various Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ posts in different Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations. This exam is conducted in four stages. They are Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 and Tier-4.
SSC CGL 2023 (Tier 1) exam is scheduled from 14th July to 27th July 2023.
Tier-I & Tier-II exams will be conducted online, Tier-III will be a pen and paper based exam and Tier-IV will be a computer skill test. Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, tier-1 and tier-2 are normalised by the SSC. This article gives detailed information about the different tiers of the SSC CGL Exam Pattern.
Tier-1 of SSC CGL:
Tier-1 of the exam comprises 4 sections with about 100 questions in total and with maximum marks of 200. The entire exam is needed to be completed within 1 hour (60 minutes).

Tier-2 of SSC CGL:
After getting qualified in Tier1, candidates will be eligible for Tier-2. SSC CGL Tier-2 comprises 4 papers of 500 MCQs and each paper is to be completed in 120 minutes. Details of Tier-2 are given below:

Tier-3 of SSC CGL:
After getting qualified in Tier-2, candidates will be eligible for Tier-3. SSC CGL Tier-2 is a descriptive test. It will be conducted for 100 marks in English/Hindi. The maximum time allotted to the exam is 1 hour(60 minutes).

Tier-4 of SSC CGL:
Tier 4 is qualifying in nature. It is a computer skill test that is conducted in two steps:
- Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): The test is for the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax). It is conducted to test the writing skills of the candidate. Candidates are required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English.
- CPT Test (Computer proficiency test): This test is conducted to check a candidate’s proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Generation of Slides. The duration of each module will be of 15 minutes one after the other.
