Overview of Diabetes
Diabetes is defined as a condition where the body cannot efficiently synthesize or use a hormone called insulin. Without insulin, the blood sugar levels in the body shoot up drastically over a prolonged period of time. This condition is very bad for the body and it can result in many complications. Diabetes is also known as Diabetes Mellitus.
Diabetes is classified into the following types, namely:
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Diabetes Insipidus
- Gestational Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms
Type 2 diabetes or Diabetes mellitus type 2 primarily occurs due to obesity or lack of exercise. It can also be passed down genetically. Typically, type 2 diabetes symptoms are characterized by:
- Frequent urination
- Increased thirst
- Increased desire to eat/ excessive hunger
- Pain in the foot
- Prone to infections
- Degrading personal health (especially in women)
- Itchiness
- Skin rashes and infections
- Blurred vision
Furthermore, These type 2 diabetes symptoms can lead to further complications or diseases that can hamper the quality of life. For instance, prolonged levels of high blood sugar can result in blindness, it can also increase the risk of necrosis in the lower limbs and its extremities.
