CAT Result – Calculate the Percentile
In the CAT, each accurate response is worth three points, while each erroneous response is worth one point less. In non-MCQ-type questions, incorrect responses do not result in a loss of points. Three phases are involved in CAT percentile calculation. See the CAT result computation steps below:
Prior to calculating the overall score, each candidate is first assigned marks in each segment based on the quantity of correct and incorrect tries.
In order to arrive at a scaled CAT score, these section-by-section and overall scores (raw scores) are then normalised.
The CAT Result cum scorecard offers percentiles that are derived from the normalised scores.
CAT Normalization Process
The CAT exam is administered in three sessions, each of which has a different level of difficulty. After the declaration of CAT Result, the authorities adopt a normalisation method whereby the marks of each applicant are scaled to bring them to the same plane in order to ensure equity in the marking process. The following variables are taken into account during the CAT normalisation process:
- Highest score
- Lowest score
- Mean score
- Median score
- Top 10 percentiles
- Lowest 10 percentiles
