There are three sections in CAT exam i.e. ‘Quantitative Aptitude’ (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning’ (DILR) and ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension’ (VRC). A candidate has to obtain both sectional and overall percentile rank, which should combine to form a positive (greater than zero) overall raw score. For the 2017-19 batch (CAT 2016 percentiles), the IIM Ahmedabad cut-off is given below:
Apart from these qualifying criteria, IIM Ahmedabad eligibility criteria involve ‘Application Rating’ (AR) score of the candidates. Also, exceptional performers from different disciplines and categories are directly called for the interview.
Academic-wise and Category-wise IIM Ahmedabad cut-offs for Different Streams:
|Category||Science||Commerce||Arts & Humanities|
Detailed AR Calculation & Rating Score:
The rating scores from the below-given tables are taken and added to form the total Application Rating Score. This ARS is used as a shortlisting criterion by IIM A.
For Class 10 Scores- Rating Score A
For Class 12 Scores- Rating Score B
For Bachelor’s Degree- Rating Score C
Note: In the Bachelor’s Degree Rating Score table,
- AC-1 implies Medical and Surgery related fields
- AC-2 implies Professional Degrees (CA, CS, ICWA)
- AC-3 implies Commerce, Finance, Economics and Management related degrees
- AC-4 implies to Engineering degree
- AC-5 implies Science, Nursing and Agri-based areas
- AC-6 implies Arts, Humanities, Fashion Technology, law and rural studies
- AC-7 implies to any other discipline
An applicant’s AR score is the sum of the rating scores based on her/his percentage of marks obtained in 10th standard, 12th standard and bachelor’s degree examinations.
∴ Application Rating Score: AR= (A+B+C)
The Normalized AR score of an applicant is equal to his/her AR scores divided by the average of the top 50 AR scores from the applicant pool.
∴ Normalized AR score = AR/(Average of top 50 candidates AR).
Short Listing for Writing Ability Test (WAT) & Personal Interview (PI):
The Candidates will be shortlisted for the Written Ability Test and the Personal Interview on the basis of “Composite Score”.
∴ Composite Score: CS = 0.3 (Normalised AR score) + 0.7 (Normalised overall score in CAT-2017)
In general, the candidates remaining on the top 20 percentile will be selected for the AWT and PI. Previously, a group discussion was conducted which was replaced by the WAT to smoothen the scrutiny process. A candidate’s WAT score is common for all the IIMs i.e., if a candidate has already appeared and got the WAT score, every IIM will use that score to evaluate his/her final score.
IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria- Phase 2 Selection:
In phase 2 of the IIM A selection process, the final selection is done on the basis of individual Final Composite Scores (FCS). Here the candidates are evaluated on the basis of their performance on PI and WAT along with the composite score.
The IIM Ahmedabad selection at this stage will strictly be based on a candidate’s ‘Final Composite Scores’ (FCS). This will include the overall performance of the candidates including the WAT and PI.
∴ FCS = 0.4 (Normalized PI Score) + 0.1 (Normalized AWT Score) + 0.5 (CS)
Overall weightage given at Final Selection Stage (all scores are calculated on Normalised basis) is as follows:
