The West Bengal Board is the main education board in the state, it is divided into several parts. They are the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBPE), West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE). Established in 1951, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) is responsible for conducting the Class 10 board examination. Additionally, it is also in charge of prescribing the syllabus, textbooks and curriculum for Classes 6 to 10. The board is also responsible for evaluating the board exam papers and announcing the results of the exam. 

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is in charge of Class 11 and Class 12 in the state. WBCHSE is responsible for conducting the Class 12 board exams and setting the syllabus, curriculum and textbooks for Classes 11 and 12. The West Bengal Board of Primary Education or the WBBPE is an autonomous educational authority administered by the West Bengal state government which oversees primary education in the state.

  • West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE)

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) was established in 1951 under the West Bengal Secondary Education Act. The Board aims to provide education to develop the attitude, abilities and qualities of the students to direct them towards a brighter future. The board also aims to provide all children with good quality education that is affordable and accessible. Along with conducting the Class 10 (Madhyamik) exams, the board is also in charge of setting the syllabus, creating textbooks and providing guidelines to affiliated schools.

  • West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE)

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) was established in 1975 to monitor the education system for Classes 11 and 12. The board is responsible for conducting the examination for Class 12. In addition to this, the board also sets the syllabus, publishes textbooks, provides regulations, evaluates exams and announces results.

WBSED or the West Bengal School Education Department is the main educational authority responsible for implementing various educational policies of the West Bengal state government.

  • West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education (WBBME)

The West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education is administered by the state government and is mainly responsible for conducting exams for all the affiliated madrasahs throughout the state.
