To measure these quantities, units of measurements are required. There are times when the units used for the measurement, do not match the measurement preference and convenience as well as the standards prescribed for certain processes and applications. Converting such units to an extent that it can be understood directly and applied properly is important. To better understand the stated, let us consider the example of a person who is only familiar with the metric system. The person cannot easily figure out the height of a tree measuring 25 feet. Converting 25 feet to meters will help the person better understand the height of the tree. Unit conversion is one of the topics that you need to master in order to do well in physics. Here, we have provided a few practice questions to help you better understand the concept.

  1. Which is greater 45 kg or 4500 g?
    Ans: 45 kg is greater than 4500 g as 45kg = 45000 g
  2.  

  3. Calculate the height of the person 5’3″ tall in meters.
    The conversion of height from feet to meters is a two-step process. First, convert the number of feet to meters, and then convert the number of inches to meters.
    Converting feet to meters, we get
    5 ft × 0.305 = 1.53 meters
    Now, converting the inches to centimetres, we get
    3 inches × 2.54 = 7.62 cm = 0.0762 meters
    Adding these two together, we get
    1.53 meters + 0.0762 meters = 1.6062 meters.
    Therefore, the height in meters is 1.6062 meters.
