Nutrition is the supply and absorption of essential compounds required for the normal growth, development, and metabolism of plants. Mineral Nutrition mainly refers to the absorption, assimilation, and utilization of minerals or inorganic compound by plants for the synthesis of essential material for their growth, development, structure, and physiology. These Mineral Nutrition are classified into two main groups based on their requirements by the plants.
Macronutrients – It is also referred to as the major elements. These nutrients are required in larger amounts by plants and they include hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen, sulphur, calcium, potassium and magnesium.
Micronutrients – It is also referred to as the minor elements or trace elements. These nutrients are required in very small amounts by plants and they include chlorine, copper, boron, iron, manganese, molybdenum, and zinc.
