CAT Selection Process for New IIMs: CAP Round
The baby IIMs, including those in Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy, Udaipur, and Kashipur, will use a common admissions process (CAP) for their counselling. There will be a shortlist of candidates, and they will all need to show up for the rounds of the common written ability exam and personal interviews. Based on a unique merit list, each of these IIMs will disclose a candidate’s performance.
Key Points to Attend IIM CAP
- The shortlisted candidates will get an invitation to attend the IIM CAP round.
- All CAP participating IIMs will have their WAT-PI round conducted by that IIM.
- Following the CAP, the participating IIMs will assess each candidate’s performance in the WAT, PI, CAT score, profile, etc., and compile their own merit list for admission.
- On the relevant IIM website, a final list of the chosen candidates will be available. Candidates who have a CAT ID or institute login are the only ones who can access this.
Note that the selection process after CAT exam is almost similar to all the IIMs. The only difference is the baby IIMs conduct a common IIM CAP round, while the old IIMs conduct their individual selection round.

Selection Process after CAT – Non IIMs
There are about 100 institutes registered with IIM CAT that do not come under the IIM category. These universities use their own CAT selection process to conduct the final admission round. Although the WAT, GD/PI and CAT counselling rounds are the same. However, not all of these steps are necessary for admission in the end. Instead of holding group discussions, several institutions, including IMT Ghaziabad, FMS Delhi, etc hold group activities or group training.
