Income Tax Department wins an Award

  • The IT department has won silver award at National Awards on e-Governance 2016-17
  • For the e-filing of Income Tax returns in the category of “Incremental Innovations”
  • The project e-filing of IT returns had already won Silver Award in 2007-08
  • The innovations introduced under this project are
    1. Introduction of Electronic Verification Code (EVC)
      • Introduced in July 2015
      • Allows the citizen to electronically verify IT returns and other forms through third party verification-AADHAAR based OTP or by banks by using net banking etc. By using this method the citizen need not be worried about submitting a physical copy of ITR-V (Income Tax Return-Verification) to CPC (Central Processing Centre)
    2. Securing taxpayer account using E-filing Vault
      • When entering My Account it adds another layer of security
      • It enables the tax payer to completely secure the e-filing account to prevent any unauthorized access
    3. Easy compliance through Non-Filers Monitoring and E-Sahyog
      • It allows the citizen to provide tax compliances through e-portal (or E-Sahyog)

 

India and Portugal to sign agreement

  • India and Portugal have agreed to work out modalities for a co-production agreement in the Film Sector.
  • The discussions were held during a meeting between Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore and Portugal Minister of Culture, Mr. Luis Filipe Castro Mendes in New Delhi.
  • The Film Facilitation Office has been providing a single window clearance to the Foreign Film Producers

 

Usually such agreements will have following features

  • The agreement will open up the new market for films of both countries
  • The films made under such agreements are considered as national films in both countries
  • It entitles the these movies for some support and benefits such as tax incentives
  • Usually both the producers will co-own the copyrights and will jointly share the market revenues
  • India has signed such agreements with many countries such as Spain, France, Poland, Germany, Canada etc
  • In August 2016, the Government of India and Government of Bangladesh have agreed to jointly produce a documentary on Bangladesh’s war for Independence of 1971

 

Silver Jubilee Expo at Handloom Haath

  • Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment visited the Silver Jubilee Expo being organized by National Backward Classes Finance & Development Cooperation (NBCFDC)

             About NBCFDC

  • It is a Government of India undertaking and works under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
  • It has been incorporated under section 25 Companies Act 1956 (it was referred to as Section 25 company as per the companies act of 1956 but has been called as Section 8 company of Companies act of 2013)
  • It provides financial assistance through State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs) nominated by the State Governments/ UTs. It also provides Micro Financing through SCAs/ Self Help Groups (SHGs)
  • It provides assistance to poorer classes in skill development and self-development ventures in sectors such as Agriculture and Allied Activities, Small Business, Artisan and Traditional Occupation, Technical and Professional Trades/Courses, Transport and Service Sector etc.
  • Once the skill training is provided these youth are provided loans at interest rates of 4% to 6%

 

21st National Youth Festival

  • The theme will be Youth for Digital India to be held at Rohtak (Haryana) from 12th to 16th January 2017 
  • Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Youth Affairs organizes the Annual Youth Festival
  • The theme has been selected keeping in mind- the importance given to Digital India, Skill India, Make In India and to achieve Youth Led Development
  • Various initiatives of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NSDC, DGET and MoMSME will be exhibited, lectures and workshops will be held for the benefit of the youth
  • The mascot-‘lado’-has been selected keeping in view the skewed sex ratio of Haryana (as per Census 2011, the child sex ratio for Haryana is 879. It was also one of the reasons why Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was launched in the same state at Panipat in January 2015)

 

 Regional Conference of Labour Ministers

  • Is a subject in the concurrent list
  • To promote better co-ordination and co-operation the central government organises these regional conferences since last year
  • Regional Conference of State Labour Ministers and Principal Secretaries/Secretaries, Department of Labour of Southern States (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telngana, Lashadweep and Puducherry) will be held on 11thJanuary, 2017 at Chennai.

 

Tamil Nadu signs Power for All and UDAY framework

  • The core idea of 24×7 Power For ALL (PFA) is to provide reliable and quality power supply to all citizens/establishments by 2019
  • The program has been instrumental in achieving energy efficiency with implementation of schemes such as UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LED’s for All) by EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited). UJALA today is the largest and most successful LED programme
  • To augment the initiatives of the state governments under 24×7 Power For ALL, the ministry is envisaging a scheme to fund the investments required to ensure the last mile connectivity to all the households (which are not covered under DDUGJY and other schemes)
