Every IAS aspirant would know that on clearing the UPSC Civil Services Exam they would be inducted into the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). This is a world-class institution with a mandate to produce efficient civil servants for the country. It is the first taste of the life of an IAS officer for probationers. This article aims at familiarizing you with the top-notch facilities the academy offers. The LBSNAA is located at Mussoorie, a hill station in the state of Uttarakhand.
Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Facilities
At the academy, you will find spacious and well-equipped lecture halls, library, conference halls, auditorium, mess, living accommodation, sports complex, medical facilities, reprographic unit, EPABX, computer lab, a bank, a post office and internet facilities.
1. Teaching Facilities at the LBSNAA
The academy offers spacious and well-endowed classrooms with the latest audio-visual facilities along with video-recording and video-conferencing facilities. There are four main buildings at the Academy: Karmashila, Dhruvshila, Gyanshila and Aadharshila. Karmashila contains lecture halls, officers mess, library and also the Officers Lounge. The faculty offices and the administrative offices are located in Dhruvashila and Gyanshila. Gyanshila also houses a few classrooms. Aadharshila has a computer lab and a few classrooms as well.
2. Living Accommodation at the LBSNAA
The officer trainees are expected to stay at the Academy during the course of the training. There are three hostels for new recruits named Ganga, Kaveri and Narmada. All the LBSNAA hostel rooms have central heating, television, telephones and offer double occupancy. The Mid Career Training Programme participants are housed at Silverwood, Happy Valley, Mahanadi and Valley View Executive Hostels. All the hostels have common lounges, audio-visual equipment, modern laundromats and common recreational areas. The visiting faculty is housed at the Kalindi Guest House. The Academy also has Studio Apartments for fellows and adjunct faculty at the Brahmaputra Awas building.
3. Sports Complex
LBSNAA has an amazing sports complex with facilities for athletics, football, cricket, volleyball, squash, tennis, badminton, yoga, basketball, billiards, table tennis, etc. It also has a modern gym. Apart from this, the trainees are also trained in horse-riding, shooting, archery, self-defence, rock climbing, etc. The officer trainees are also taken for mountaineering, trekking, river rafting, parasailing and other adventure sports.
4. Library
The library known as the Gandhi Smriti Library owns over 1.65 lakh books, 5000 CD/DVDs, 300 periodicals and magazines and 38 newspapers. Photocopying facility is also available.
5. Dispensary
There is also a medical centre consisting of doctors and nurses in the Academy. A path lab, X-ray unit, dental and physiotherapy units are also there.
6. IT Services
The Academy’s computer section is engaged in data processing and accounting. It also has a high-speed internet connection and advanced software packages.
7. Officers Mess
The Officers Mess is a revered institution within the Academy. Run by probationers, this place strives to foster a spirit of universal brotherhood and fraternity among the probationers. It is responsible for organizing formal and informal get-together functions.
8. Indira Bhavan Complex
This facility is situated a km away from the main campus and is an extra facility for classroom teaching and workshops/conferences.
All the facilities at the LBSNAA include consideration for differently-abled people. Every building in the academy is equipped with access ramps and Braille coded lifts for use by officer trainees of the Persons With Disability category. The academy also assigns a helper to differently-abled trainees on a need basis for help with day to day activities. There is also an electric rickshaw inside the campus for use by differently-abled people. In addition to this, all the differently-abled officer trainees are given accommodation with easy access to the library, officer’s mess and classrooms at the Happy Valley hostel building.
LBSNAA life is filled with learning, adventure and fun. It moulds an IAS probationer into a polished administrator and equips them with the necessary skills to work as an IAS officer.
