Nikhil Mahajan IAS Topper 2021 Background

Nikhil finished his official schooling in Punjab’s Faridkot. He then proceeded to IIT Delhi, where he received his Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering degree. He had the opportunity to work abroad after college, but he decided to study for the Civil Services Exam at his uncle’s suggestion. On his first five attempts, Nikhil failed the IAS examination. Following that, in his sixth attempt, he passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021, completing all three prelims, mains, and interview phases.

  • He completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Nikhil Mahajan Support From Family and Friends

He could have easily landed a private-sector job paying in the millions or gone abroad to explore employment options after graduating from IIT Delhi, but he changed his mind during his graduate years and decided to study for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Nikhil lives in a joint family and tells that he always got support from them. His father always advised him to keep his vision straight and fixed. His uncle who passed away in February 2022, was his biggest living support for the UPSC exam. Her mother passed away in the year of 2021 due to a road accident when Nikhil was just a child, her memory was one of the biggest inspirations for Nikhil. His father, Subhash Mahajan, was a school instructor before retiring from the Education Department as deputy director.

“I lost my mother when I was eight. Her memory was a big motivation for me. Although in my fifth attempt, when I could make it, it was a bit discouraging, I determined to take that final chance and am glad I did that.”

Nikhil Mahajan’s Success

Mr. Nikhil Mahajan’s road to success was not very smooth, he has faced failure too in his life. Despite failing to pass the IAS exam in his first five attempts, he maintained his willpower and received consistent support from his family, ensuring that he did not lose track and continued his training. Nikhil scored an All India Rank of 80 on his sixth and last try at the civil services test. He is optimistic that he will be accepted into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) based on his marks and rank. Now that Mr. Mahajan has realised his ambition, he is on his way to serving his country, as he has wanted to do since his undergraduate days. While giving some credit to Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Sir Winston Churchill, he said:

“In my interview, I was asked about Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Since I am into poetry and have been reading Faiz, I think I do owe them a bit of my success.” Nikhil wants to work in the field of school education and says: “Since both my parents worked in the field of education, school education is very close to my heart. I want to do something in that area if given an opportunity.”

Talking about his future, he further said:

“II am not looking forward for a break now that I have finally achieved my dream. I want to continue and focus on preparing for my training, which will start in three months. Working hard has become a habit for me, I guess.”

Nikhil Mahajan UPSC Preparation Strategies

While the specifics of his preparation strategy are not yet known, However when it comes to his path, it is apparent that he must have put in a significant amount of time studying for the UPSC syllabus. Coming from a technical background, he was unfamiliar with studying social science subjects in such depth, but it wasn’t much challenging as per him. The creation of hand notes had to have been a crucial aspect of his approach. Nikhil cracked the exam in his last attempt, which means he never lose his consistency and discipline even after so many failures. During his preparation period, Mr. Nikhil Mahajan did not work or intern and was solely focused on her IAS studies.

A Few Tips for UPSC Exam Preparation

  • Make a plan to start studying for the CSE and set aside at least a year to do so.
  • Plan ahead of time: When studying for the UPSC CSE, keep a reasonable and doable study schedule in mind. Making a schedule and tracking your progress toward your goals may also be beneficial.
  • Limit your study materials – jumping from book to book to study for an exam will just confuse you; instead, choose a few books and materials to focus on and stick to them as much as possible.
  • While the internet is a fantastic source of knowledge and study resources, be mindful of becoming too reliant on it owing to the countless distractions.
  • Do not be alarmed: it takes time to build a CSE preparation routine that works for you. Don’t worry if a subject appears difficult and you’re stumped; think about it and you’ll figure out how to grasp the concept.
  • Recognize yourself by doing the following: Identifying one’s personal strengths and weaknesses will assist the aspirant in concentrating his or her preparation efforts. This concentration and comprehension will greatly assist you in personalising each level of preparation to your specific needs.
  • Practice: Before taking the actual test, you should take mock practice tests for both the prelims and mains. This will assist you in developing confidence and experience in effectively phrasing your responses.
