Sundar Committee on Road safety and Traffic Management
An Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of Shri S. Sundar, Distinguished Fellow, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and former Secretary of the then Ministry of Surface Transport, Government of India was constituted to recommend a structure for the Directorate of Road Safety and Traffic Management and advise on its role and functions. The Committee decided to address road safety covering all types of roads including rural roads, district roads, state highways and national highways as about 60 to 65% of the fatalities occurred on roads other than the national highways.
