Competitive Examinations Centre being enhanced

The competitive examinations centre of the district central library is being enhanced, on a need-based manner with books and study materials required for the preparation of competitive examinations.

A.P. Sivakumar, District Library Officer said that the local library authority is exercising flexibility approved by the Directorate of Public Libraries in placing orders of books required by the candidates as the necessities keep varying.

On normal days, the place sees at least 100 candidates preparing for examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), and the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, while during the weeks earlier to such examinations about 150-300 candidates come.

The District Library Officer (DLO) also added that although readers’ circle have not been formed as for the purpose of preparing for the examinations, yet active group activities in an academic-friendly environment is evident. Also, visitors make optimal use of lending section where about 600 books are issued every day.

Through affiliation with an IAS Academy, free coaching was conducted for a month and a half for candidates appearing for the TNPSC Group 2A Exam.

Mr. Sivakumar said that steps are taken to expand the initiative to meet candidates’ needs who are aspiring to appear for UPSC Exams. The periodicals and dailies section is kept open even on weekly holidays for the convenience of the candidates, he added.

He also said that there are also aspirants of competitive examinations who bring their own books to study at the library. The candidates who appear for competitive exams will soon be explained through awareness sessions on the all-inclusive e-sources and e-journals which they can access from Delnet.
