1. Uncrewed Robot Flight “Vyommitra” will take place this year, “Gaganyaan” will be launched next year

Context:  Woman Robot Astronaut “Vyommitra” will fly into Space ahead of ISRO’s ambitious “Gaganyaan” mission, which will be India’s first human manned Space Flight carrying Indian Astronauts into Space. 

Vyommitra’s Uncrewed Space Mission

  • Scheduled Timing: The uncrewed Robot Flight named “Vyommitra” is set to take place in the third quarter of this year.
  • Purpose and Features: Vyommitra, a female Robot Astronaut, is designed to simulate human functions in the Space environment. It is equipped to monitor Module Parameters, issue Alerts, and execute Life Support operations. The name Vyommitra is derived from Sanskrit words “Vyoma” (meaning Space) and “Mitra” (meaning Friend).

Gaganyaan Manned Mission

  • Launch Date: The ambitious “Gaganyaan” mission, India’s first human-manned Space Flight carrying Indian Astronauts, is scheduled for launch in 2025.
  • Objectives: Gaganyaan aims to demonstrate human space capabilities by launching a crew of astronauts into an orbit of 400 Kilometres and safely bringing them back to Earth by landing in India’s sea waters.

Progress and Preparations:

  • Test Vehicle Flight TV D1: A significant milestone was achieved with the completion of the Test Vehicle Flight TV D1 on October 21 last year. This test aimed to qualify the crew escape system and parachute system.

Human Rating of Launch Vehicle: The human rating of the launch vehicle is complete, and all propulsion stages are qualified. All necessary preparations are in place for the Gaganyaan mission.


2. Three Indigenous developed Technologies transferred to Industries

Context : The Digital India FutureLABS Summit 2024, hosted at IIIT-Delhi, marked a significant milestone in the transfer of indigenous technologies to industries. The focus was on advancing the Innovation, Science, and Technology theme of Vikshit Bharat @2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Thermal Camera Advancements: InTranSE Program by CDAC Thiruvananthapuram

  • Technology Overview: Under the InTranSE Program of MeitY, CDAC Thiruvananthapuram developed a cutting-edge Thermal Smart Camera. This camera boasts an inbuilt DPU capable of running various AI-based analytics, making it versatile for applications across Smart cities, Industries, Defence, Health, and more.
  • Field Implementation: The thermal camera underwent rigorous field implementation, testing, and validation, specifically for Road traffic applications.
  • Industry Recipients: The technology found its way to eight prominent industries, including RRPS4E Innovation Pvt Ltd, SCITA Solutions, TAK Technologies Pvt Ltd, AABMATICA Technologies, Prama India Pvt Ltd, Samriddhi Automations Pvt Ltd, Norden Research and Innovation Centre, and Vehant Technologies Pvt Ltd.

CMOS Camera Integration: iVIS 10GigE by Spookfish Innovations Pvt Ltd

  • Innovative Vision Sensor: Another noteworthy technology transfer involved the CMOS-based Industrial Vision Sensor iVIS 10GigE. This vision processing system features a powerful on-board computing engine, designed for the next generation of industrial machine vision applications.
  • Sole Industry Recipient: The technology seamlessly transitioned to M/s Spookfish Innovations Pvt Ltd.

Fleet Management System Optimization: Multi-Industry Integration

  • FlexiFleet Overview: The Fleet Management System, known as FlexiFleet, aims to optimize operations and enhance the efficiency of fleet operators and transit agencies. It includes features like vehicle location tracking, alerts for various conditions, and a personalized Transit Route Guidance System.
  • Operational Strategies: A dynamic scheduling decision support tool, Operational Strategies for Headway Reliability, targets minimizing instances of bus bunching, thus enhancing the reliability of public transit services.
  • Industry Recipients: The technology was successfully transferred to three industries simultaneously – Atulya Abhinav Tech Private Limited, Unidad Techno Labs(P) Ltd, and IBI Group India Private Limited.
