1. MoU between NIRD & PR and UoR, United Kingdom
Syllabus – GS 3, Agriculture; Marketing of agricultural produce
Prelims – Collaboration in the field of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Context – Cabinet approves the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and the University of Reading (UoR).
Details –
- This MoU will help NIRD&PR faculty in acquiring and widening their knowledge and develop an international professional network in agriculture, nutrition and rural development.
- Both the institutions can bring a considerable amount of research expertise in agricultural economics, rural development, livelihoods and nutrition studies.
- NIRDPR has been involved with UoR in various research activities in the field of rural development like improvement of nutrition assessment by measuring energy expenditures, use of wearable accelerometric and sensor-based devices in agricultural livelihoods, research in low and middle-income countries and also in the area of women and child development.
2. Hosting FIFA (under 17 Women’s World Cup 2022)
Syllabus – Sports.
Prelims – 7th edition of FIFA, under 17 Women’s World Cup.
Context – Cabinet approves the signing of Guarantees for hosting Federation Internationale De Football Association (FIFA) under 17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in India.
Details –
- The 7th edition of the biennial youth tournament will be the first-ever FIFA women’s competition to be held by India.
- It is scheduled to be held between 11th and 30th, Oct 2022.
- This event has the potential to strengthen women’s football in the country.
About FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup –
- The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup event started in 2008 and is traditionally held in even-numbered years.
- The 6th edition was held in Uruguay in 2018.
- Spain is the current champion of the FIFA under17 Women’s World Cup.
- In FIFA U-17, Women’s World Cup, 2022, 16 teams including India will participate.
- The AIFF (All India Football Federation) has proposed holding the competition matches in 3 venues – Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai.
- India successfully hosted the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup, India-2017.
3. Ammo India
Syllabus – GS 3, Security; Security challenges and their management
Prelims – Make in India opportunities and challenges.
Context – At Ammo India Conference, the Defence Minister exhorted the need for a “Self Reliant Ammunition Base”.
Details –
- Attending the second Ammo Conference on Military Ammunition on the theme – ‘Make in India Opportunities and Challenges’, the Defence Minister urged for self-reliance in the defence sector and also urged the private sector to work with the government in catering to the ammunition needs of the armed forces.
- The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving Atma Nirbharta in Defence and said all efforts are being made to empower the domestic industry, which can equip the armed forces with home-grown world-class weapons/systems crucial for bolstering national security.
- The two-day conference was jointly organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Centre for Joint Welfare Studies (CENJOWS).

Details –
- The PM, Shri Narendra Modi has extended greetings to all CRPF personnel and their families on the occasion of Raising Day.
About CRPF Raising Day –
Every year, July 27 is commemorated as Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) foundation day as India’s largest central armed police force came into existence on this day in 1938.
5. International Year of Millets – IYOM 2023
Syllabus – GS-3; Agriculture; Marketing of Agricultural produce.
Prelims- IYOM-2023, PLI Scheme.
Context– Popularising Millets and other nutri-cereals.
Details –
- The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets, IYOM.
- The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare said that the action plan of IYOM, 2023 focuses on strategies to enhance production, export, branding, etc.
- The government has launched a PLI scheme for the promotion of millets.
- Product Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the food processing industry is a central scheme to be implemented for a period of 7 years from 2021-22 to 2026-27.
- The main objectives of this scheme are to support the creation of global food manufacturing champions and support Indian brands of food products in the international markets.
- The Government has evolved the ‘Seven Sutras’ (themes) in the run-up to the IYOM, which will be rolled out by the concerned Ministry/Departments, – Enhancement of Production/Productivity (DA&FW/DARE), Nutrition & Health benefits (Ministry of Health/FSSAI), Value Addition, Processing & Recipe Development (Ministries of Food Processing Industries & Tourism), Entrepreneurship/Startup/Collective Development (Commerce and DA&FW), Awareness creation including Branding Labelling & Promotion (All Ministries), International Outreach (Commerce & Ministry of External Affairs) and Policy Interventions for Mainstreaming (Dept of Food & Public Distribution and DA&FW).
