Context: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the years 2022 and 2023.
Key Details:
- The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the years 2022 and 2023 to nursing professionals at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 22, 2023.
- The National Florence Nightingale Awards were instituted in the year 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
- The award is given to outstanding nursing personnel employed in Central, State/UTs, Private, Missionary and Voluntary Organizations.
- The award consists of a cash award of Rs. 50000/-, a certificate and a medal.
2. “India and USA: Skilling for Future”

Mains: Significance of India-USA collaboration on skilling of the Indian Workforce
Context: Prime Minister Modi participates in the “India and USA: Skilling for Future” event with the First Lady of the USA.
Key Details:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and First Lady of the USA Dr. Jill Biden participated in an event focused on “India and USA: Skilling for Future” at the National Science Centre in Washington DC.
- The event focused on workforce redevelopment across higher education institutions to expand and enhance access to quality education across society.
- The Prime Minister highlighted the numerous steps taken by India to promote education, skilling and innovation.
- He appreciated ongoing bilateral academic exchanges and collaborations between Indian and US academic and research ecosystems.
- Prime Minister also presented 5-point proposals for energising India-USA collaboration in the education and research sector, as follows:
- Integrated approach bringing together government, industry and academia
- Encouraging exchange of teachers & students
- Organising Hackathons on various subjects between the two countries
- Mutual recognition of vocational skills qualifications
- Encouraging visits of people associated with education and research.

Mains: Applications of Facial Recognition Technology (FRT)
Context: Digi Yatra app user base crosses the one million mark
Key Details:
- The number of passengers who have installed the Digi Yatra application on their mobile phones has crossed one million.
- Since its inauguration on 1st December 2022, 1.746 million people have used this facility.
- Varanasi witnesses the highest percentage of passengers using this facility followed by Vijayawada.
About the initiative:
- Digi Yatra is an initiative of the Ministry of Civil Aviation for a biometric boarding system using Facial biometric verification Technology.
- It aims at providing a seamless and hassle-free experience for passengers at airports. Its main objective is to enhance the passenger experience by eliminating the need for manual verification of tickets and ID at multiple touch points and to achieve better throughput through existing infrastructure using a Digital Framework.
- In the Digi Yatra process, there is no central storage of passengers’ personally Identifiable Information (PII) data.
- All the passengers’ data is encrypted and stored in the wallet of the passengers’ smartphone and shared only for a limited time duration with the airport of travel origin where the passenger’s Digi Yatra ID needs to be validated.
- The data is purged from the system within 24 hours of the flight. The data is shared by passengers directly, only when they travel and only to the origin airport.
- The data cannot be used by any other entity since it’s encrypted and cannot be shared with any stakeholders.
