Difference between Kali Linux and Parrot OS

Both of these are operating systems developed on Debian standards. But there is a major difference between Kali Linux and Parrot OS. While both of these help us in penetration testing, they can also provide support for 64-bit as well as 32-bit architectures. Yet, they differ in terms of the RAM, graphic card, space used, and many more. Let us discuss these in detail. But we will first take a look at Parrot OS and Kali Linux individually.

What is Kali Linux?

It’s basically an operating system that lets users perform penetration testing along with digital forensics. It has Linux at its very core. The Kali Linux has been developed according to the Debian standards (it’s a type of Linux distribution). This OS was initially released back in March 2013. Its primary aim was to replace the BacTrackOS.

What is Parrot OS?

The Parrot OS is also an operating system that’s like Kali Linux. It is also Debian-based, and it is open-source. This OS is primarily used for computer forensics, pentesting, anonymity/privacy, and even for hacking. The Parrot OS was initially released back in April 2013.

Difference between Kali Linux and Parrot OS

Let us talk about the differences between Kali Linux and Parrot OS.

Parameters Kali Linux Parrot OS
RAM It requires more RAM, comparatively about 1 Gigabyte. It requires comparatively much less RAM, about 320 Megabytes.
Graphical Acceleration Kali Linux requires graphical acceleration. Thus, it needs a graphic card for its Graphics Processing Unit. Parrot OS does not require graphical acceleration. Thus, it doesn’t require a graphic card.
Installation Space About 20 Gigabytes of free space is required for installing Kali Linux OS. We would need about 16 Gigabytes of free space for installing the Parrot OS.
IDEs and Compilers This OS does not come with IDEs and compilers pre-installed with it. A bunch of compilers come pre-installed in this OS, along with IDEs.
User Interface The UI is comparatively simpler. The UI is comparatively much better.
Desktop Interface Its interface follows that of the Gnome desktop. On the other hand, its interface is developed in the environment of an Ubuntu Mate Desktop.
Lagging Kali Linux has some heavyweight requirements. Thus, it’s quite laggy. The Parrot OS doesn’t lag much since it is pretty lightweight.
Tools Involved The Kali Linux comes with all the basic tools that are required for hacking. On the other hand, the Parrot OS has all the tools that come with Kali. Added to this, it also has tools of its own, for example, Airgeddon, Wifiphisher, AnonSurf, etc.
