Is SIDBI a NBFC?

SIDBI is a statutory body established in 1990 through an Act of Parliament. SIDBI functions under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. SIDBI is the apex body which regulates and gives licenses to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Finance Companies. SIDBI is one of the four All India Financial Institutions regulated by the RBI, the other 3 are Exim Bank, NABARD and NHB.
