In traditional methods of rainwater harvesting, water is stored and also used to recharge the groundwater. Some of the traditional methods of water conservation in different regions of  India are:

  • Rajasthan – Tanks, Khadins, Nadis
  • Maharsahtra- Tals, Bandharas
  • Karnataka- Kattas
  • Himachal Pradesh- Kuhls
  • Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh- Bundhis
  • Kerala- Surangams
