The nation is divided into 28 states and 8 union territories. The President oversees the Union Territories through an Administrator that he or she has designated. In the states, the Governor, as the representative of the President, is the head of the Executive. Each State/UT in India, from the largest to the smallest, has distinct demographics, history, and culture, as well as attire, festivals, and languages.
There are eight union territories in India (as of 2021). The eight union territories and their respective capitals are tabled below:
