The year 1919 was an important one in India as it was the year that the Rowlatt Act was passed. The passing of the act would lead to a chain of events culminating in the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh. 

This would be a turning point in the Indian Independence movement as its leaders would demand complete independence instead of mere dominion status.
