The Supreme Court of India came into existence on 26th January 1950. After it came into existence, the Supreme Court was inaugurated and commenced its sittings on January 28, 1950. The Supreme Court is located in Tilak Marg, New Delhi. It succeeded the Federal Court of India, established under the Government of India Act, 1935. The Supreme Court had replaced the British Privy Council as the highest court of appeal.
