Railways in India
- Introduced on 16th April 1853, the Indian Railways is the 4th longest railway network in the world. The first train ran between Mumbai and Thane.
- Lord Dalhousie is known as the Father of Indian Railways.
- At present, there are about 22,593 operating trains in India and 18 railway zones.
- North Eastern Railway is headquartered in Gorakhpur, and Northeast Frontier Railway Zone is headquartered in Maligaon, Guwahati, in the state of Assam.
- The current railway minister of India is Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.
