The largest freshwater lake in the world in terms of surface area is Lake Superior in North America.
It is the world’s third-largest freshwater lake by volume after Lake Baikal in Russia and Lake Tanganyika in Africa.
10 % of the world’s total freshwater is in the Superior. It is also the highest freshwater lake in the World.
The average surface elevation of the lake is 600 feet above sea level. Superior is fed by more than 200 rivers. The underwater visibility is 8.2m or 27 feet.
Lake Superior drains into Lake Huron.
The Caspian Sea, with more volume and surface area than Superior, contains Brackish water.
The Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and the highest saltwater lake in the world is Pangong Lake.
