The first issue of Kudi Arasu was released in Periyar E. V. Ramasamy on 2 May 1925 in Erode with K. M. Thangaperumal pillai as the editor.
The Madras government of the British Raj banned the magazine at several occasions for various reasons including sedition and for propagating communism. It ceased publication on November 5, 1949.
