Plant Movement
Any change in the spatial arrangement of a plant can be referred to as a movement. Movement in higher plants can either be twisting, bending, sensitivity to light and touch (in some) or the elongation of some plant structures. Plant movement can be spontaneous or induced. Autonomic or spontaneous movements are of three types in plants – variation movements, curvature and growing movement and locomotion movement. This type of plant movement is due to internal stimulus and is relatively independent of external factors. Whereas induced movements are responses to external stimuli.Â
