Gastric or Gastritis is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the protective lining of the stomach. There are two types of Gastritis:
- Acute Gastritis – It can occur suddenly or gradually.
- Chronic Gastritis – It involves long-term inflammation that can last for years if it is left untreated.
The main causes of Gastritis include the inflammation or swelling of the stomach linings by an excessive use of alcohol, Bacterial infections, chronic vomiting, stress, excessive use of alcohol and tobacco, and the use of certain medications such as aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs.
Symptoms of Gastritis
- Upset stomach.
- Abdominal pain.
- Vomiting blood.
- Loss of appetite.
- Black, tarry stools.
- Gnawing or burning in the upper abdomen.
These were some common symptoms of Gastritis. This conditions may also lead to a severe health complications if left untreated. The increased risk of Gastritis leads to ulcers, stomach cancer, etc.
There are few long-term treatments available to treat and control the inflammation or swelling of the stomach linings. This treatment depends on the Acute and Chronic causes of Gastritis. Few Antibiotics are used to destroy the invaded pathogens and other medications are used to neutralize and reduce the acid production in the stomach. Apart from these medicines, few healthy diets and other lifestyle changes are advised to reduce indigestion, burning and irritation in the stomach.
