Chemistry Worksheets Class 12 on Chapter 12 Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids with Answers - Set 5

Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids are the classes of hydrocarbons containing a carbonyl group. In aldehydes, the carbonyl group is attached to either two hydrogen atoms or one hydrogen atom and one alkyl or aryl group. In contrast, it is connected to alkyl or aryl groups in ketones. The functional group of aldehydes -RCHO is also known as an aldehydic group, while the functional group of ketones, R- (CO)- R’, is known as the ketonic group. On the other hand, carboxylic acids are compounds containing the carboxyl functional group in their molecules. The carboxyl group comprises carbonyl >C = O and hydroxyl -OH groups; therefore, carboxyl is derived from carbo (from carbonyl) and oxyl from the hydroxyl group.
