Aldehydes ketones and carboxylic acids class 12 important questions will help students of class 12 to prepare themselves for the board exams and competitive exams. That is why we have provided chapter wise sets of important questions of class 12 chemistry topics so that students can perform better for their exams.
Let’s define each of them:
What is carbonyl group?
A carbonyl group is defined as, a carbon atom attached to oxygen atom with double bond. The carbonyl group is a trigonal planar structure. This is because of the bond angle between the atoms attached to carbonyl group. The bond angle between the atoms predicted as per VSEPR theory is 120 degree. Both Aldehydes and Ketones have carbonyl group.
What are aldehydes?
One of the two additional bonds that the carbonyl carbon atom forms is attached to hydrogen atom and the other either to an aromatic ring, cycloalkyl, hydrogen atom, or an alkyl group.
What are ketones?
Both of the additional bonds of the carbonyl carbon atom are attached to another carbon atom that is part of an aromatic group, cycloalkyl group or an alkyl group.
What are carboxylic acids?
Carboxylic acid is the acid in which one of the additional bonds of carbonyl carbon atom is attached to a hydroxyl group and the other to either cycloalkyl group, aromatic ring system, alkyl group or hydrogen atom.
Below are aldehydes ketones and carboxylic acids class 12 important questions. We have divided the important question into 1. Short answer type questions and 2. Long answer type questions. Go through them and prepare with perfection.
