What is carbonyl group?
A carbonyl group is defined as, a carbon atom attached to oxygen atom with double bond. The carbonyl group is a trigonal planar structure. One of the two additional bonds that the carbonyl carbon atom forms is attached to hydrogen atom and the other either to an aromatic ring, cycloalkyl, hydrogen atom, or an alkyl group.
What are ketones?
Both of the additional bonds of the carbonyl carbon atom are attached to another carbon atom that is part of an aromatic group, cycloalkyl group or an alkyl group.
What are carboxylic acids?
Carboxylic acid is the acid in which one of the additional bonds of carbonyl carbon atom is attached to a hydroxyl group and the other to either cycloalkyl group, aromatic ring system, alkyl group or hydrogen atom.
