The 32,415 megawatts of withdrawn projects will now be transferred to Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) through new contracts.

  • The union government gave an indicative list of 29 projects, which the Central PSUs, including the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation and the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd., have assessed and reviewed.

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC)

To fulfil the nation’s growing demand for power and to advance sustainable development, NHPC was founded in 1975 with the goal of maximizing the hydroelectric potential of the land.

  • The Government of India’s Ministry of Power has administrative responsibility over NHPC because it is a public sector organization.
  • Numerous significant hydropower projects have been created and put into operation by it in a number of states, notably the acclaimed 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydropower Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The projects of NHPC not only produce clean and renewable energy but also aid in the expansion and improvement of the local economies.
  • In its project planning and execution, the organization places a strong emphasis on the sustainable use of water resources and environmental preservation.
  • In the areas near its operations, the corporation places a high priority on corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, such as community development, healthcare, education, and environmental conservation.
  • To ensure the effective execution of its projects, NHPC also works together with a range of stakeholders, including state governments, municipal governments, and technical institutes.
