Shreya completed her formal school education at a government school in Singrauli district which is one of the backward districts in India. After that, she went straight to IIT Kanpur, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. After completing her postgraduate studies, she had the option of working abroad, but she chose to study for the UPSC exam. Shreya failed to pass the preliminary exams on her first attempt. Subsequently, she passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021 in her second attempt, passing all three prelims, mains, and interview stages.

• Shreya Shree completed her Class 10th (Matriculation) and Class 12th (Intermediate) studies in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
• She is a postgraduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, from where she completed her graduation as well.

After post graduating from IIT Kanpur, one can get a job anywhere in the world. However, when asked how she got into the UPSC Civil Services, Shreya Shree explains that her father, Dinesh Chaudhary, who previously worked in the Indian Air Force inspired her. Following 20 years of employment there, he retired and went to work for the then Allahabad Bank, now Indian Bank, as a clerk/cashier. Shreya was inspired to serve her country while his father was serving in the Air Force. Later her mother, Sangeeta Chaudhary, also encouraged her to sit for the IAS exam prior to moving on to another job.

Shreya Shree’s Success

Ms. Shreya Shree’s road to success was not very smooth, she has faced failure too in her life. Failing to clear the preliminary stage in her first attempt was quite a setback for her, but maintaining her willpower and constant support from her parents ensured that she doesn’t lose her track and continued her preparation. Shreya has cleared the civil services exam in her second attempt with an All India Rank of 71. Seeing her marks and rank, she is confident that she will get into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Now that Ms. Shree has achieved her dream, she’s en route to serving her country as was her dream since her childhood. According to her father, Shreya’s priority was Indian Administrative Service and Indian Foreign Service. Her plan was clear that she’ll settle with the above services only and if in case she fails to grab them, then she will attempt the exam again.

While the exact details of her preparation strategy are not available yet. But coming to her journey, it is quite clear that she must have had put a good number of hours into her studies for the UPSC syllabus. Coming from a technical background, studying subjects of social science in such depth was something new for her. It is evident that having no background in the core syllabus of the civil services exam and still not joining any coaching institute, must have been challenging. In her strategy, the preparation of hand notes must have been a critical part. Shreya was not doing any job or internship during her preparation period and completely focused on IAS studies.

• Set aside at least a year to prepare for the CSE and make a strategy to get started.
• Plan carefully: When studying for the UPSC CSE, be sure to stick to a realistic and manageable study schedule. Making a planner and keeping track of your goals’ progress could also be beneficial.
• Limit your study materials – hopping from book to book to prepare for a test will only confuse you; instead, pick a few books and materials and stick to them as much as possible.
• While the internet is an excellent source of information and study materials, be wary of overusing it due to the numerous distractions.
• Do not be alarmed: developing a CSE preparation regimen that works for you takes time. If a topic appears difficult and you feel stuck, don’t worry; think about it and you’ll figure out how to grasp the notion.
• Recognize yourself as follows: Identifying one’s personal strengths and shortcomings will help the aspirant focus their preparation efforts. This focus and comprehension will considerably aid you in tailoring each stage of preparation to your individual requirements.
• Practice: You must take mock practice exams for both the prelims and the mains before taking the actual test. This will help you acquire confidence and expertise in framing your responses correctly.
