UPSC 2014: List of Toppers

The UPSC civil services exam is taken every year by lakhs of aspirants in the hope of making it out as IAS officers. The civil services is a very highly regarded profession in India and those who top this exam become stars. It is always inspiring to read the stories of IAS toppers and get tips on how to clear the CSE exam from them. In this article, we give you the list of 2014 IAS toppers.

In 2014, the first rank went to an inspirational woman, Ira Singhal. She is the first candidate from PH category (physically handicapped) to bag the first rank in the IAS exam. She suffers from scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and had to fight for her case with the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). She had, in her previous attempts, been allotted the IRS but was prevented from joining due to her disability. In 2014, she had won her case and also the CSE AIR 1 at the age of 31. Despite many odds stacked against her, Ira fought through and created history.

The second, third and fourth ranks were also secured by women. Renu Raj, a married doctor from Kerala, secured the second rank. An excellent student throughout her life, Raj was motivated to take the civil services by her parents. The third and fourth ranks went to Nidhi Gupta and Vandana Rao respectively. Rao is also the topper in the OBC category.
