1. National Energy Conservation Day

Context:

The President of India presented the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023 in New Delhi on National Energy Conservation Day.

National Energy Conservation Day:

  • The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated on December 14 every year, to spread the message of the importance of conserving energy and to showcase the nation’s achievements in energy efficiency and conservation.
  • The Bureau of Energy Efficiency leads the celebrations under the Ministry of Power.
  • It is necessary to consume energy wisely and efficiently to maximise energy efficiency and to ensure that it is conserved for future generations.
  • The day has been observed since 1991. The National Energy Conservation Awards were also given for the first time in 1991.
  • To promote the process of energy conservation, several events such as discussions, conferences, debates, workshops, and competitions are organised throughout the country.

2. ASEAN-India Millet Festival

Mains: India – ASEAN relations

Context: 

Union Minister inaugurated the inaugurated the ASEAN-India Millet Festival in New Delhi.

About the ASEAN-India Millet Festival:

  • In line with the International Year of Millets, the festival aims to increase awareness and establish a larger market for millet and millet-based products.
  • The program reflects the vibrancy of millets and its immense potential to transform agriculture and nutrition. 
  • Delegates from all the ASEAN countries participated in the festival.
  • Millet is an ancient grain, the speciality of millet is that it is small, but nutritious and provides strength to the body. Millet has the power to revolutionize our approach to agriculture, climate and food security.
