Context: The year-long celebrations commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati will be inaugurated on 12th February.

Details:

  • The year-long celebrations commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Delhi on 12th February 2023.
  • The Indian government is committed to celebrating the contributions of social reformers and great personalities, particularly those who were not given the desired recognition on a pan-India scale. For instance, Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary has been declared as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati:

  • He was a social reformer born on 12th February 1824. He founded Arya Samaj in 1875 to counter the then-existent social inequities. 
  • Arya Samaj was crucial in the cultural and social awakening of India. 
  • Arya Samaj focused on social reforms and education.

2. Global Biofuel Alliance

Mains: Global Biofuel Alliance.

Prelims: Global Biofuel Alliance.

Details:

  • Brazil, India, and the United States, along with other interested countries will collaborate for developing Global Biofuels Alliance.
  • Notably, the three countries are the leading producer and consumers of biofuels.
  • The aim of the Alliance is to facilitate cooperation and intensify the use of sustainable biofuels. 
  • It will focus on strengthening markets, enhancing global biofuel trade, formulating strong policies, and providing technical support for national biofuel programs worldwide. 
  • It will also display the best practices and success cases from across the world.
  • It would complement the existing regional and international agencies and initiatives like bioenergy, bioeconomy, and energy transition. 
  • Furthermore, it would also aid in the Clean Energy Ministerial Biofuture Platform, the Mission Innovation Bioenergy initiatives, and the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP).
  • The global fuel alliance is one of the major priorities under India’s G20 Presidency.
