1. PM to inaugurate Bharat Tex 2024 on 26th February

Context :

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate Bharat Tex 2024 on February 26th, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
  • The event will run from February 26th to 29th, 2024.

Focus and Scope:

  • Bharat Tex 2024 will focus on the entire textiles value chain, in line with the Prime Minister’s 5F Vision (farm to foreign via fibre, fabric and fashion focus).
  • It aims to showcase India’s strengths in the textile sector and reinforce its global textile powerhouse status.

Event Highlights and Features:

  • Organized by a consortium of 11 Textile Export Promotion Councils and supported by the government, the event emphasizes trade, investment, and sustainability.
  • More than 65 knowledge sessions with over 100 global panelists will address various sector-related issues.
  • Dedicated pavilions on sustainability and circularity, an ‘Indi Haat’, fashion presentations, fabric testing zones, and product demonstrations are part of the event.
  • Fashion presentations will cover themes like Indian Textiles Heritage, sustainability, and global designs.

Expected Participation and Impact:

  • Anticipated participation includes policymakers, global CEOs, over 3,500 exhibitors, over 3,000 buyers from 100 countries, and over 40,000 business visitors.
  • The event aims to facilitate over 50 announcements and MoUs, boosting investment, trade, and exports in the textile sector.
  • It aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat, contributing to the nation’s self-reliance and development.

 


2. PM inaugurates Sudarshan Setu connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat

Prelims : About Sudarshan Setu

Inauguration of Sudarshan Setu:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Sudarshan Setu, connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat.
  • The bridge, built at a cost of approximately Rs. 980 crores, is the longest cable-stayed bridge in India, spanning 2.32 km.
  • Prime Minister Modi expressed his admiration for the project on social media, referring to it as “Stunning Sudarshan Setu.”

Unique Features of Sudarshan Setu:

  • Sudarshan Setu boasts a distinctive design, featuring a footpath adorned with verses from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Bhagwan Krishna on both sides.
  • Additionally, the bridge incorporates solar panels on the upper portions of the footpath, capable of generating one megawatt of electricity.
  • These innovative features not only contribute to the aesthetic appeal of the bridge but also promote sustainability and energy efficiency.

Significance and Impact:

  • Sudarshan Setu holds significant importance for the region, as it will greatly ease transportation and reduce travel time for devotees journeying between Dwarka and Beyt-Dwarka.
  • Prior to the construction of the bridge, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach Beyt Dwarka, leading to longer travel times and logistical challenges.
  • With the inauguration of Sudarshan Setu, pilgrims and tourists alike can now enjoy seamless connectivity, while the bridge itself emerges as a prominent tourist attraction in Devbhumi Dwarka.
  • The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent dignitaries including the Governor of Gujarat, Chief Minister of Gujarat, and Member of Parliament, underscoring the significance of this infrastructure milestone
