Prelims: Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum

Context: The Yuga Yugeen Bharat Museum, poised to be the world’s largest museum, aims to celebrate India’s rich heritage and its legacy as the mother of democracy. 

  • A four-day inter-ministerial stakeholder consultation and capacity-building workshop, organized by the Ministry of Culture, was held from June 26 to 29, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. 
  • This event brought together experts from India and France to discuss and plan the museum’s development as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.

Objectives of the Museum

  • Celebrating Heritage: The museum will honor India’s extensive cultural history and its contributions to the world.
  • Inclusivity: It will be a museum of the people, highlighting community narratives and the democratic spirit of India.
  • Largest Museum: Spanning over 1,54,000 sqm, it will be the largest museum globally, located in the North and South Block of Central Vista.

Workshop and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Inter-Ministerial Consultation: The workshop included participants from various government departments and private sector experts, fostering interdepartmental coordination.
  • French Expertise: The capacity-building sessions were led by experts from France Muséums, leveraging their experience in projects like the Louvre.
  • Critical Focus Areas: The sessions covered collection management, curatorial practices, administrative best practices, and strategic integration of technology.

Collaboration and Development

  • India-France Partnership: This collaboration stems from a Letter of Intent signed in 2020, emphasizing museum and heritage cooperation.
  • Adaptive Reuse: The museum will be developed through adaptive reuse of existing structures, incorporating innovative design and technology.

2.INS SHIVALIK

Prelims: INS SHIVALIK

 

Context: INS Shivalik, an Indian multi-role stealth frigate, has arrived at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the world’s largest naval exercise. This deployment follows the completion of JIMEX 24, a bilateral exercise between India and Japan.

 

Overview of RIMPAC-24

  • Harbour Phase (June 27 – July 7, 2024): Involves symposiums, exercise planning discussions, sports competitions, and reciprocal deck visits.
  • Sea Phase: Divided into three sub-phases, involving basic and advanced level integration exercises and culminating in a large force tactical exercise.

Participants and Activities

  • Diverse Participation: Involvement of an Aircraft Carrier Battle Group, submarines, maritime reconnaissance aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, remotely piloted surface ships, and amphibious force landing operations.
  • Multinational Collaboration: Joint operations with special forces of various navies, enhancing interoperability and building trust among approximately 29 participating countries.

INS Shivalik’s Role and Capabilities

  • Indigenous Design: INS Shivalik is a 6000-tonne guided missile stealth frigate, designed and built in India.
  • Operational Reach: The participation of INS Shivalik, 9000 nautical miles from the Indian coast, showcases the Indian Navy’s ability to operate globally.
