1. National Technology Day 2024

Context:

National Technology Day 2024 was celebrated on May 11.

About National Technology Day:

  • National Technology Day is celebrated on May 11 every year to remember the successful nuclear test conducted by India and to recognise & honour the significant contributions of scientists and engineers who have played a crucial role in the country’s technological progress.
  • It also serves as a reminder of the importance of science and technology in nation-building.
  • The theme for 2024 is ‘School to Startups-Igniting Young Minds to Innovate’, aiming to inspire innovation and startup culture.

2. Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control & Discipline) Act notified

Syllabus: GS-2, Polity; GS-2, Defence & Security

Mains: Inter-services organizations (ISOs)

Context:

Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control & Discipline) Act notified through Gazette Notification.

Details:

  • The Act will be enforced with effect from May 10, 2024.
  • The bill was passed by both the Houses of Parliament during the Monsoon Session of 2023. 
  • It received the assent of the President on August 15, 2023.
  • The Act empowers Commanders-in-Chief and Officers-in-Command of ISOs to exercise control over Service personnel, serving under them, for effective maintenance of discipline and administration, without disturbing the unique service conditions of each individual service.
  • The Act will empower the Heads of ISOs and pave the way for expeditious disposal of cases, avoid multiple proceedings and will be a step towards greater integration & jointness among the Armed Forces personnel.

3. Drone Didi Yojana

Prelims: Drone Didi Yojana

Context:

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd to conduct two Pilot Projects under the Drone Didi Yojana. 

About Drone Didi Yojana:

  • Launched in early 2024, the scheme aims to train 15,000 women to operate drones for agricultural purposes such as fertilising the crop, monitoring crop growth and planting seeds, thereby creating new livelihood opportunities for women through imparting skills in new technology areas.
