1. Demonetization

Context:

4th anniversary of demonetization.

2. India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting

Context:

8th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting.

Details:

  • The 8th round of the India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting was held in Chushul village in Leh, Ladakh.
  • Both sides agreed to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, ensure their frontline troops to exercise restraint and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation.
  • Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue and communication through military and diplomatic channels, and, taking forward the discussions at this meeting, push for the settlement of other outstanding issues, so as to jointly maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas.

3. Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana

Context:

ESIC has extended the Atal Beemit (Bimit) Vyakti Kalyan Yojana from July 2020 to June 2021.

4. STIP 2020

Context:

Union Minister of Science and Technology chaired the first of its kind policy consultation with the highly-skilled Indian diaspora to facilitate channels for them to contribute to India’s Science Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP) 2020.

5. Ro-Pax terminal at Hazira

Context:

PM inaugurates Ro-Pax terminal at Hazira.

Details:

  • The Prime Minister also flagged off the Ro-Pax ferry service between Hazira and Ghogha in Gujarat.
  • This service now shortens the journey from 10 – 12 hours to 3 – 4 hours.
  • This service will enable the transportation of fruits, vegetables and milk easily.
  • It will also lead to reduced pollution.
  • This will be the second such ferry service to be launched by the PM after the Ghogha – Dahej route three years ago, which is now dysfunctional.
  • Both the services were launched to bridge the Gulf of Khambhat by providing a sea route to a large number of passengers travelling to and fro between Bhavnagar located on the western side of the Gulf and South Gujarat on the east. The sea route would be shorter compared to the road.
  • Ghogha is a fishing hamlet and an old port. And, Hazira is a commercial greenfield port.
  • Note: Ro Pax stands for Roll-On-Roll-Off-Passenger-ship/ferry.

Additional information:

  • Many important facilities are getting ready in the state of Gujarat such as the Gujarat Maritime Cluster, Gujarat Maritime University and the country’s first CNG Terminal at Bhavnagar.
  • Gujarat maritime cluster ports to be built in GIFT city would be a dedicated system to address Ports to sea-based logistics.
    • These clusters would help in strengthening the cooperation between the government, industry and educational institutions and will also help in value addition in this sector.
  • India’s first Chemical Terminal was established in Dahej, Bharuch district, Gujarat.
