1. QRSAM System

Context:

Second Successful Flight Test of QRSAM System.

Details:

  • QRSAM system was successfully flight-tested for the second time from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

2. Lilavati Award 2020

Context:

Union Minister of Education launches Lilavati Award-2020.

About the Lilavati Award 2020:

  • The Lilavati Award is an initiative of the technical education regulator, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and it aims to recognise efforts by AICTE-approved institutions to treat women with ‘equality and fairness’.
  • The theme of the Lilavati Award is women’s empowerment. It aims to create awareness about issues like sanitation, hygiene, health and nutrition using ‘traditional Indian values’.
  • It also aims to create awareness about issues like literacy, employment, technology, credit, marketing, innovation, skill development, natural resources, and rights among women.
  • Entries for the Award can be submitted at the institution or team level, comprising students or faculty or both from AICTE approved institutions.

3. CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research

About CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR):

  • CIMFR, Dhanbad is a constituent lab of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
  • It aims to provide R&D inputs for the entire coal-energy chain encompassing exploration, mining and utilization.
  • The laboratory also strives to develop mineral-based industries to reach the targeted production for the country’s energy security and growth with high standards of safety, economy and cleaner environment.
  • The institute is located in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
    • Dhanbad is also called the ‘Coal Capital of India’. It has the largest coal mines in the country with a total production of 27.5 million tonnes.
    • CIMFR is strategically situated in the Damodar basin of the eastern part of the country which is endowed with rich coal deposits and hosts several large mineral-based industries.
  • It is under the aegis of the Ministry of Science & Technology, GOI.

4. GST Shortfall

Context:

Telangana decides to go for Option-1 to meet the GST implementation shortfall.

Details:

  • Telangana has now joined 22 other States and 3 Union Territories (Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Puducherry) who have opted for Option-1.
  • The States who choose Option-1 are getting the amount of shortfall arising out of GST implementation through a special borrowing window put in place by the Government of India.
  • The window has been operationalised now and the Government of India has already borrowed an amount of Rs.18,000 crore on behalf of the States in three instalments and passed it on to 22 States and 3 Union Territories.
