HPPSC Eligibility Criteria

Founded in 1971, the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) is a premier agency conducting exams and recruitment for different departments in the state civil services. The agency functions under the jurisdiction of the Himachal Pradesh Government and is headquartered in Shimla. The most sought after services under HPPSC include Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HPAS), Himachal Pradesh Judicial Services (HPJS), State Forest Services (HFS), HPSC- Personnel Department-Allied Services, etc.

HPPSC 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for HPPSC 2023 exam are discussed below:

Age limit

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not be older than 35 years of age. The age is counted from 1st January of each year. However, certain age relaxations (on the maximum age) are given to students from reserved categories:

Candidates applying for the HPPSC must be residents of India.

Educational Qualification

Candidates appearing for the recruitment of various posts under the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services must possess the following educational qualifications:

  • The candidate should have completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Any candidate who has appeared at an examination, qualifying which is necessary to become eligible to apply for HPPSC Exam, but the result for which is awaited can still appear for HPPSC Exam. However, the candidate has to produce proof of passing that examination as soon as passed and, in any case, not later than two months after the commencement of this examination.
  • Candidates who have passed the final professional M.B.B.S. or any other Medical Examination equivalent thereto but haven’t completed their internship are eligible to appear for the HPPSC exam. However, they have to submit a copy of the certificate from the University/ Institutions that they had passed the requisite final professional medical examination. Later on, at the time of the Personality Test, producing an original degree or a certificate of completion (including completion of internship) from the concerned University is mandatory.

Note:

  • Candidates must be well versed in the regional language of Himachal Pradesh.
  • The Knowledge of customs, manners, and dialects of Himachal Pradesh and suitability for appointment in the peculiar conditions prevailing in the State of Himachal Pradesh.

HPPSC State Eligibility Test Pattern

The HPPSC State Eligibility Test consists of three levels –

  • The Preliminary exam consists of 400 marks with objective questions and two papers – General Studies and Aptitude Test.
  • The Main exam consists of 900 marks with descriptive questions and nine papers, out of which the papers of English and Hindi are of qualifying nature, and there will be optional subjects of the candidates’ choice.
  • The last level consists of an Interview with 150 marks weightage.

The students are selected on the basis of the candidates’ performance in all three rounds.
